Unlocking Personal Potential: Understanding the Uncommon Compass

Our Uncommon Compass

Goal-setting is a crucial process for personal and professional development. Yet, as careers become less linear, more like a labyrinth than a ladder, traditional goal-setting falls short of encompassing all the facets of moving towards your own vision for success.

At Uncommon, we are here to help our members uncover their own version of success and be with you through the highs and lows of the journey and evolution of making this vision come to life. Unlike traditional goal-setting, we want to highlight the community element - the fact that it takes a village (sometimes more) to keep reorienting towards our own version of success.

In the format of a 1-hour workshop, The Uncommon Compass serves as a reimagined version of static goal setting. Just like you can come back to a compass to course correct, revise your path and take strides forward, so can this tool serve as a way of checking in with yourself and your growth.

The 4 locations: These four locations are common themes in mythology, literature and embody the winding heroine’s journey for us at Uncommon. Rather than being sequential or linear, members may be faced with any of these symbolic places on their journey.

The Four Locations

The Garden

The Garden in your personal promised land. Sometimes we are running so hard that we forget where we are running towards. How are you defining success in this time period? Like a real garden, defining your own garden is a full body experience. Visualise what it looks like. How does it feel in your body? Who is present? How are you spending your time? What are the conversations you are having? What does your day to day look like? What does your free time look like? How are you spending your time at work? How are you spending your time with loved ones?

The Inferno

If the garden is the expansive realm of abundance of possibility, then the inferno is what we are most afraid of if things go wrong. Often our fears are unspoken yet they define our actions, our abilities to take risks, and keep us playing small. Writing down the unspoken fears we have can help us see how some are completely unfounded. Alternatively, we can foresee some legitimate barriers and challenges that are there in the road ahead.

Get in touch with the story running inside: What happens if you fail? Who will be there? How will they react? What are the consequences of you not achieving this goal? How will it feel for you? For your team? Your family? Your community? When do you notice these fears arise?

The Mountain

Your mountain is a challenge you are facing that you would like to overcome.

What is a battle that you are fighting within yourself or externally?

What are the small steps that you are taking today?

Who is with you on this mountain? Are they helping or hindering?

What is distracting you from your path?

It starts with the self - how prepared are you mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually to face this challenge or feat? Is it one big challenge? Can you break it down to define smaller mountains?

How do you manage your energy through this?

The Cave

The Cave is your safe space. Where do you come home to when you need a pause and time to recharge in refuge on your journey? It’s your self-care, your recharge, your community, your sounding board.

How can you carve out a sense of safety in your journey for yourself?

Who is in your inner circle that recharges you?

In the journey of self-discovery and personal growth, understanding oneself is often the first step towards unlocking true potential. Enter the Uncommon Compass, a unique framework designed to illuminate the intricacies of individual personality archetypes and guide individuals on a path of self-awareness and development.
