Message from our Founder

Welcome to Uncommon,

I want to begin by saying, I'm happy you're here. It means a great deal that you've chosen to take this next step, not just in your leadership journey, but with this community that we’re building together.

You already carry strength, wisdom, and the spark of something extraordinary. At Uncommon, we don’t believe in “fixing” leaders, we believe in amplifying what’s already powerful within you. This space was created to remind you that you’re not alone, and that leadership doesn’t have to be isolating or transactional. It can be connected, human, and deeply transformational.

You’re stepping into a circle of ambitious, generous, and thoughtful women who are navigating the same questions, tensions, and aspirations. Think of this as your personal board of advisors. A community that will challenge you, champion you, and hold space for you to become the kind of leader the world needs.

Together, we’ll learn to lead with more clarity, compassion, and courage across boardrooms, dinner tables, and everything in between. Our hope is that this experience equips you not only with tools, but with a sense of belonging and conviction that stays with you well beyond your time here.

So welcome. We’re honored to walk this journey with you.

Yolanda,
Founder, Uncommon

Our Mission

Uncommon is a community learning and development platform for female leaders. We use behavioural science, coaching and a supportive community to bridge the gap between knowledge and action and strive for transformation, where it matters most.

Our vision is to create a world where you have the clarity and courage to pursue your own version of success and communicate it authentically and confidently.

The Company You’re Surrounded By

Working women are an island. Our research has shown us that women around the world are 14% to 38% less likely to have a strong network — one that is both large and diverse. We are on a mission to solve this and provide you with the community and platform that will help you succeed.

The leaders who join you are a vetted community of senior professionals from diverse backgrounds, industries and organisations. We look for growth-minded individuals willing to provide and take in support and feedback; share insights, resources and information with the mission to promote growth and gender equality in the workplace.

We honour the multi-faceted reality of being a working woman and the different stages at which each member is in their journey. In our community you will find leaders who want to upskill and sharpen their knives, others who are seeking inspiration and encouragement to muster the courage to change path, and those who are looking to grow their network outside of their current sector. You will find the introverts and the extroverts but all in all, you will find people who are looking to form real connections with leaders who inspire them.

Our Values

At Uncommon, we aim to build a culture of community and authenticity. Our organisational values are built around curiosity, generosity & commitment, around appreciating the richness that diversity brings and being generous with our energy and ability to learn. It means not shying away from difficult conversations and creating spaces for vulnerability and compassionate transparency. It means each of us showing up for each other and ourselves, holding each other accountable, and making allowances for the imperfect.

Because we strive for excellence, not perfection.

  • Presence and Commitment | 90% of success is showing up. Being present, not just for yourself but for others too, is the superpower that can change everything.

  • Approach Difference with Curiosity | We all come from different walks of life. Whether that difference is of nationalities, worldviews or methods, creating space for difference makes us all stronger.

  • A Beginner’s Mindset | At Uncommon, we are all teachers and students. We can learn from each other just as much as we can share our learnings.

  • Confidentiality | The glue that holds Uncommon together: growth happens when you feel safe to be truly open about your experiences.

  • Generosity | Generosity deepens relationships, and in our view is the best networking strategy. Generosity is what builds real, honest connections.

  • Active Appreciation | Women don’t recognise their own strengths enough. Normalise calling out each other’s strengths.

Community Guidelines & Policies

Our Community Guidelines & Policies are grounded in our mission and values. They inform the behaviors we expect members to embody and uphold and are part of our effort to create in-person and virtual environments that foster dignity, safety, and respect.

Leadership Lessons

  • Be open-minded to who you may be connected with, the different perspectives you hear and paths others take.

  • Hold back from giving unsolicited advice: share your experiences and any tips & tricks you might have, but refrain from giving advice if not asked for.

  • Refrain from establishing leadership hierarchy: there are no leaders among leaders at Uncommon.

Behaviour

  • We expect all members to treat the entire Uncommon community - including the Uncommon team, coaches, and each other - with respect. We are here to support you and are looking out for you and our entire community.

  • Uphold Uncommon’s values when connecting with other members, posting or hosting a meetup.

  • This is a vetted, confidential community built on trust and safety, therefore we do not condone:

    • Soliciting other members for purposes beyond Uncommon or the intended use of a community group.

    • Engaging in any hateful or illegal behaviour, including harassment, discriminatory, derogatory, or racist behaviours.

    • Spamming the community. Posting repeatedly and engaging in overly self-promotional behavior.

Suspension & Termination of Membership

  • We understand that life happens - a change of location, a baby, an MBA programme. If a major life event prevents you from attending your Core sessions, please get in touch. We do not offer any refunds, but on a case by case basis you will be entitled to suspend your membership once, for a maximum duration of 6 months.

  • Uncommon reserves the right to terminate your membership for any breach of our guidelines or policies with no refund.

Confidentiality

  • Maintaining a safe space for members to be honest and vulnerable is paramount to the Uncommon experience.

  • Please seek consent from every member present if you want to record a group session, a discussion, or other interaction

  • Use your best judgment when sharing personal information with other members and sharing about Uncommon events outside of the network (ie. postings on social media)

  • Uncommon will always inform you if a session is being recorded or if content will be used for marketing purposes.

Commitment & Attendance

  • We ask all members to respect each others’ time and the effort they put into connecting.

  • Make a habit of checking your Mighty Networks inbox and responding to any messages in a timely manner. The Uncommon team or other members may be connecting with you through our platform.

  • If you can no longer attend an event, please remove your RSVP as soon as possible so that another member can take your place. Hosts are counting on your presence and participation, so please be courteous if your plans have changed.

  • Please strive to attend all Core sessions for your benefit and the benefit of other members. We understand that life happens, however Uncommon reserves the right to review your Core membership once you miss 2 Core sessions.

  • If you miss a Core session, there will be no make-up session given. Reach out to your Core Facilitator, Coach or a member of the group to get any updates or learnings that were missed.
